that's not a problem. when u try to update, sometimes the operation times out and u have to restart the process. when update process has started, then there is no problem. though i have never encountereed such a problem in Avira Antivir.

A new Trojan horse making the rounds has been installing itself as a Firefox extension, according to security company McAfee.

The FormSpy Trojan attacks computers that have already been infected with the Downloader-AXM Trojan, according to a security advisory McAfee issued Tuesday. Once FormSpy is executed, it installs itself as a component of the Firefox Web browser.

I use avast! and have no problem with it. It is so light that I easily play games like FIFA 06 and Q4 without turning it off

by extra processes, i mean services that avast providers scan. for eg, if u use bittorrent, ur cpu usage might just shoot up. that's what always happens with me and i hate it. it's not so good for an older computer. it's best to turn off the P2P shield or just uninstall it.

i don't use P2P and have turned it off. Believe me, there's nothing lighter than Avast Lite. (pun intended)
